THIBODAUX, La. – After playing six consecutive contests away from home, the Nicholls State University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of home games to Stephen F. Austin and Lamar.
GAME ONE: Nicholls 0, SFA 3
Nicholls offense found its rhythm in the second and third set as they registered 27 kills across the final two frames. However, SFA's offense was efficient throughout the contests as they tallied 43 kills while hitting .354 from the floor.
The Colonels' attack was paced by setters
Ava-Claire Calais and
Isabella Padilla who tallied 16 and 15 assists, respectively.
Tierney Terrell led the Red & Gray with 11 points as she tallied 10 kills and one service ace.
Maelie Chupin also registered 10 kills as she led the unit with a .333 hitting percentage. Additionally,
Madison Smith and Alyssa Smith combined for 13 kills.
The Red & Gray defense was spearheaded by Calais who led the way with nine digs followed bby Terrell who had seven. Libero
Karina Smith had five digs while
Olivia Besson, and Padilla added four apiece. Both
Harper Holden and
Neriah Tualaulelei-Malele had one solo block.
GAME TWO: Nicholls 1, Lamar 3
The second match of the weekend started like the first as the Colonel offense struggled in set one. The unit hit .061% from the floor while the Cardinals hit .385 in the opening frame.
The Red & Gray found its rhythm offensively in the second set as they tallied 17 kills while hitting .295 from the floor. However, the Colonels momentum ran out of steam as the squad combined for 18 kills across the third and fourth stanzas while Lamar hit .414 and .353.
The Colonels' attack was paced by Padilla and Calais who dished 20 and 18 assists, respectively.
Tamara Chavez led the way with 21 kills followed by Terrell (7) and Williams (6).
In addition to her 18 assists Calais recorded 13 digs and added four service aces enroute to her first double-double of the season.
Karina Smith chipped in with 12 digs while Terrell had seven. Tualaulelei-Maleleled the way at the net with two blocks while Chavez and Terrell had one apiece.
