Colonels Clipped in SLC Play by UIW, HCU

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team continued league play with a pair of losses across state lines at UIW (Oct. 2) and HCU (Oct. 4).
 
GAME ONE: Nicholls 0, UIW 3
 
The Red & Gray offense struggled to find its rhythm as the unit hit .118 compared to the Cardinals who hit .417 from the floor. Nicholls tallied double figure kills in the second set and hit a game best .259 but UIW recorded double digit kills in the first two sets and hit over .400 in both frames.
 
The Colonels offense was paced by setters Neriah Tualaulelei-Malele and Isabella Padilla who dished 13 and 10 assists, respectively. Tamara Chavez led the attack with 10 kills followed by Alyssa Williams (7) and Ana Clara Valentim do Vale. Chavez added three service aces to her scoring total.
 
The Red & Gray defense was anchored by Olivia Besson who finished with eight digs followed by Chavez (4) and Maelie Chupin (2). Chavez and Valentim do Vale recorded two blocks apiece at the net.
 
GAME TWO: Nicholls 0, HCU 3
 
The Colonels offense had a similar outing in Houston as the unit peaked in the second stanza hitting .286 while hitting .169 for the entire contest. On the other side, HCU tallied double figure kills in all three sets as their unit peaked in the final stanza to hit .308 from the floor.
 
Padilla paced the offense with 16 assists while Ava Pennison added three assists. Chavez led the attack with nine kills while Madison Smith and Alyssa Williams added five apiece.
 
The defense was anchored by Karina Smith who tallied nine digs followed by Padilla (7) and Chavez (4). Harper Holden and Williams led the action at the net with two blocks apiece.
