EL PASO, Texas – After opening the season with a victory, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team with beaten 76-61 by UTEP inside the Don Haskins Center on Saturday night.
A slow start by Nicholls' offense allowed UTEP to take an early double-digit lead in the first (17). However, the Colonels picked up their defensive intensity as both teams hit six field goals in the second stanza. The Miners were able to keep their distance throughout the second half as the Colonels finished the game shooting 35% from the field.
For the second consecutive game,
Sh'Diamond McKnight paced the offense with 10 points.
Makayla Charles hit three field goals and three foul shots to finish with nine points, while snagging a team high five rebounds.
Sanaiya Morris had seven points,
Emani Burks had six, while the trio of
Anyra Wilson,
Jasmine Matthews, and
India McMahon had five points apiece.
