THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team was defeated 68-60 by Northwestern State inside Stopher Gym on Thursday night.
 
The Colonels started the game strong scoring the first eight points of the contest to force an early Lady Demon timeout less than five minutes into the action. The Lady Demons responded with a 7-0 surge out of the timeout, but the Colonels held an 11-10 advantage after 10 minutes.
 
That one-point lead would be the last of the game for Nicholls as the Lady Demons hit eight field goals in the second and third quarter to keep their distance as the Colonels hit 10 field goals across the two stanzas.
 
The Colonels offense was spearheaded by Britiya Curtis who had 20 points two assists and two steals. Elli Garnett added 13 as she reaches double figures for the fourth time in the last five outings. Tanita Swift chipped in with eight points and five rebounds.
 
Mya Bell led the Lady Demons with 32 points while Sharna Ayres and Vernell Atamah added 13 and 10 respectively.
