THIBODAUX, La. – Following an eight-run series clinching win on Saturday night, the Nicholls State University baseball team's bat cooled off in the series finale loss to Northern Illinois on Ray E. Didier Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Huskies scored four runs in the first and sixth inning and 12 in the eighth.
In the opening frame with the bases loaded, Gavin Baldwin blasted a grand slam over the center field wall before Charlie Parcell added a solo homer in the second. In the sixth, Logan Gregorio laced a three-run shot to right field before the Huskies added their ninth run on a throwing error.
The Colonels scored on a
Fisher Ingersoll ground out in the seventh. In the eighth, the Huskies scored 12 runs on five hits and one error. After the Colonels walked the bases loaded JP Gauthier brought a run home via a sac fly before pinch hitter Nolan Sandee hit a grand slam to put the Huskies up 14-0. Next, CJ Cepicky plated a run with a double before the team added a pair of runs via walks. NIU's next two runs came on a fielder's choice and a fielding error. In his second at bat of the stanza, Sandee had a run base knock.
Chase Jans led the Colonels with three hits followed by
Logan Mock and
AJ Cappell who had two apiece. Both
Tyler Johnson and
Karson Irvin had one hit. Despite striking out eight batter
Dalton Hill picks up his first loss of the season after allowing two hits, five runs, and five walks.
