THIBODAUX, La. - After spending the first two weekends on the road, the Nicholls State University softball team will make its home debut on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at Swanner Field at Geo Surfaces Park with a 2 p.m. doubleheader against Alcorn.
The game will be the home debut for
Ron Frost as head coach after serving as an assistant for the last three years. The doubleheader will also be the only home games for the Colonels until March 14.
Nicholls (3-6) notched one victory last weekend with a 12-8 win over Missouri State.
Molly Yoo earned the win in relief while the offense pounded out a season-high 17 hits.
For the weekend,
Riley Rutherford had another outstanding showing at the plate with seven hits for a .438 batting average. She has been one of the top hitters in the Southland so far with a total of 13 hits.
Claire Sisco tallied five hits in the five games while
Molly VandenBout and
Ally Mooneyham added four each.
Alcorn also has three wins on the season, taking down Mississippi Valley State, Arkansas Baptist and North Carolina Central.
Ka'Miya leads the Lady Braves with a .467 batting average and three other players -- Paris Thompson, Yahnya, Acevedo, and Olivia Miller -- have eight hits.
In the circle, Ta'Niyah Fletcher has been the ace so far with a 2.84 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 32 innings.
