THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team was beaten by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 59-44 inside Stopher Gym on Thursday night.
Nicholls led 8-6 heading into the first media timeout as
Britiya Curtis began the game by hitting a pair of triples and a pullup jumper.
The Red & Gray offense struggled after Curtis' hot start. In the second quarter as the unit shot 2-14 from the field while the Islanders built their lead. The Colonels cold quarter led to a 29-7 Islander run that lasted across 16:30 minutes of the first half. Nicholls committed 10 first half turnovers and trailed 32-15 at the intermission.
The Colonels picked up their defensive intensity in the second half and forced the Islanders to shoot 9-23 from the field. On the other end the Colonels connected on 11 field goals including three triples.
The Colonels offense who shot their second worst field goal percentage in league play (31.5%) was led by
Jesslynn Jalomo who finished with 11 points. Elli Garrnett hit four field goals and finished with 10 points and a team high seven rebounds while Curtis finished with eight points.
The Islanders had three double figure scorers as Tymberlin Criswell had 15 followed by Samora Watson (12) and Mireia Aguado (10).
Despite the loss, based on other outcomes across the league, the Colonels have secured a spot in the 2025 Southland Conference Tournament.
