THIBODAUX, La. –  In the final regular season home game, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team was beaten by UTRGV 59-50 inside Stopher Gym on Saturday afternoon.  
 
Both teams started slowly as both squads made three field goals apiece in the opening frame. The Colonels found a rhythm in the second stanza as they connected on six field goals. Despite the slow start the Colonels led 24-20 at the intermission.
 
The second half was a different story as the Vaqueros, who hit seven field goals in the first half hit connected on seven shots in the third quarter while the Colonels shot 23 percent in the quarter.
 
After taking the lead in the third, the Vaqueros kept their momentum rolling into the fourth as they hit six of seven shots from the floor to hold their lead.
 
The Colonels offense was led by Malaya Jones who hit six field goals including two from long range to score14 points. Deonna Brister added 12 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double.
 
UTRGV was led by a trio of double figure scorers. Kade Hackerott led the way with 17 points and eight rebounds. Charlotte O'Keefe finished with 11 points and a game high 11 rebounds while Tierra Trotter added 12 points.
