BEAUMONT, Texas – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team fell 68-49 at Lamar on Thursday night.
Nicholls (16-12, 9-10 SLC) got out to a slow start offensively as they hit two field goals in the opening quarter while Lamar (20-7, 15-3) led 18-5 after 10 minutes.
The Red & Gray picked up their intensity on both ends in the second quarter as the Cardinals shot 31 percent from the field in the frame. The Colonels hit seven field goals and trailed 32-17 at the intermission.
The Colonels carried their momentum into the third quarter as the unit hit five field goals including two from beyond the arc and five foul shots. The Red & Gray outscored the Cardinals 17-14 in the stanza but trailed 46-34 heading into the 4th quarter.
Both teams hit seven field goals in the final quarter. However, the Cardinals hit two from long range and went 6-8 on free throws to extend their lead to as much as 21.
Eight different Colonels scored as sophomore guard
Britiya Curtis hit seven field goals including three triples to pour in a game-high 19 points.
Lamar was led by four double figure scorers. Akasha Davis finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds, KJ Walker added 13 points, followed by Jacei Denley (12) and NJ Weems (11).
