FRISCO, Texas - Nicholls State University guard
Jaylen Searles has been named Southland Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Searles averaged 14.0 points and 7.5 rebounds to help Nicholls pick up wins at UTRGV and at home against first-place McNeese. In Saturday's victory over the Cowboys, Searles posted his first double-double of the season with 12 points, 10 boards and added three assists and two steals to end the Colonels' five-game drought to McNeese while snapping their 19-game Southland winning streak.
In Monday's win at UTRGV, Searles shot 6 of 9 from the field and 3 of 4 from three, scoring 16 points to go along with five rebounds in the road victory.
The award is the first of the season for Searles and he is the third Colonel to be named SLC Player of the Week this year, joining
Michael Gray Jr. and
Robert Brown III.
