THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team ended its five-game losing streak with a 7-1 victory over UIW at Ray E. Didier Field on Friday night.
After starting pitcher
Nuno Parache produced two quick innings, Nicholls (9-14, 4-6, SLC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead on two hits and an error in the second.
Aaron Biediger hit a full count leadoff single and later scored on a failed pickoff with two down.
UIW (10-13, 0-10 SLC) tied the game in the fourth with a run on two hits before the Colonels retook the lead on a
Carter Jenkins groundout.
Following two scoreless frames, the Red & Gray extended their lead with three runs on four hits. After
Andy Miller hit a one out single and stole second,
Karson Irvin plated Miller with a single up the middle. Next,
Chase Jans followed Miller's lead by hitting a single and stealing second before
Jaden Collura cleared the bases with a double to right field. Colonels led 5-1 after seven stanzas.
The Colonels added two runs to their lead in the eighth. Following three one out walks by
Noah Detillier, A.J. Cappell, and Jenkins, Miller plated two with a with a base knock to center field.
Parache struck out five batters while allowing one run on five hits in seven full frames.
Harper Jordan tallied four punchouts in his two innings of work.
