THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University tennis program hosted Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for a women's/men's doubleheader and fell in both matches, 6-1, on Saturday at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.
The women's team (2-8, 0-3 SLC) scored its lone point when
Paulina Villegas defeated Leticia Tarocco in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 11-9. On the No. 1 court,
Aada Inna also went three sets but was ousted, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (6), 1-10. The other four courts were decided in straight sets in favor of the Islanders.
In doubles action,
Constanza Cruz and
Sophia Sara Safarova notched a 6-2 win at No. 3 but AMCC claimed the point with wins at 1 and 2.Â
The men's team (6-6, 0-3 SLC) had similar results with the top two courts in singles going to super tiebreakers after the match was decided.
Kotaro Matsumura picked up a 4-6, 6-3, 12-10 win at No. 2 after
Maxwell Lindstedt fell short at No. 1, 1-6, 6-4, 5-10.Â
For doubles, the Islanders took courts 2 and 3, 6-1. Matsumura and
Colin Tavares had a 4-2 lead before play was suspended.Â
