THIBODAUX, La. - Coming off a doubleheader sweep on Wednesday, the Nicholls State University softball team will continue its home stand with a three-game series against Lamar, starting with a Friday doubleheader.
With rain in the forecast, the series was moved up to a 12 p.m. start on Friday. Saturday's finale is set for 10 a.m. with Senior Day ceremonies scheduled for after the game. Nicholls will recognize its two seniors --
Riley Rutherford and
Molly VandenBout.
For the upcoming series, both teams are coming off sweeps in league play but the Colonels were on the short end of theirs. Nicholls dropped all three games at McNeese to slip to 3-6 in conference while Lamar improved to 6-3 by taking all three contests against East Texas A&M.
Nicholls and Lamar met once already this year in a nonconference matchup in the second week of the season. The Cardinals plated seven runs in the third inning en route to a 12-1 run-rule victory.Â
In the nine league games this season,
Claire Sisco leads the Colonels with 13 hits for a .542 batting average.
Brynne Songy and
Erin Krause have a team-high six RBIs, and Krause has the lone homer which came last weekend in Lake Charles.
Molly Yoo has accounted for over half of the inning in the circle, posting a 4.20 ERA in 31.2 innings. Yoo's victory was in the last home series where she tossed 9.0 shutout innings in the 1-0 win over UIW.
