THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University softball team will open its Southland Conference slate with a three-game series at Stephen F. Austin, starting on Friday, March 7 with a 4 p.m. doubleheader. Saturday's finale is scheduled for 1 p.m. and all three games will be streamed on ESPN+.
Nicholls was scheduled to go to Southern on the following Wednesday but that game has been postponed until April 23.
Nicholls (7-13) secured seven wins in the first four weeks of the season, defeating Alabama State and Alcorn twice, and single wins over Penn State, Murray State and Missouri State. The Colonels will be looking to snap a four-game skid but two of those losses came to SEC member Ole Miss.
The Colonels have a .288 team batting average as they head in SLC play, which ranks fourth in the league. Leadoff hitter
Claire Sisco ranks in the top 10 with a .377 average and she has one of the team's two home runs. Sisco scored on an inside-the-park homer while
Kayleigh Lugowski had a pinch-hit three-run shot.

Molly VandenBout has pitched and played at first base, posting a 4.32 ERA in 10 appearances.
SFA (9-11) will be playing at home for the first time this season. The Ladyjacks are coming off a very successful weekend at the Mardi Gras Mambo where they went 5-0. But SFA saw that winning streak end on Tuesday with a 4-0 loss at Louisiana Tech.
Nicholls and SFA will square off for the first time since 2021. The Ladyjacks swept the series in Nacogdoches with 9-4, 12-2, and 6-0 victories.
