THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University women's and men's tennis teams secured victories in a nonconference doubleheader against Southern on Tuesday at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.
The women's team (3-10) had a close battle with Southern in doubles before claiming the point.
Julia Bordiginon and
Amalie Grube Andersen won 6-1 at No. 3 but the point was up for grabs after the Lady Jaguars won in three sets at No. 1.
Noemie Piquet and
Blanca Losada went to earn a 7-5 win for an early 1-0 lead.
In singles action,
Paulina Villegas started off with a straight-set win at No. 2 and
Constanza Cruz notched her third consecutive victory with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at No. 6.
Southern rallied with wins at No. 3 and No. 1 before Bordiginon put together her own rally for a three-set victory at No. 4. After falling in a tiebreaker in the first set, she cruised to 6-1 and 6-2 wins to clinch the team victory.
On the men's side, the Colonels (7-8) needed just one win in doubles as Southern was shorthanded, resulting in a default win at No. 3.
