BEAUMONT, Texas. – The Nicholls State University baseball team was outlasted by Lamar 5-4 in 10 innings at Vincent-Beck Stadium on Friday night.
After falling behind 1-0 early, Nicholls (12-22, 6-13 SLC) scored four runs across the third fourth and fifth innings to generate a 4-3 lead heading into the sixth frame.
Fisher Ingersoll opened the third with a leadoff single through the right side before scoring on a
Chase Jans two out single up the middle. However, Lamar (28-8, 10-6 SLC) scored two runs on two hits in the bottom of the third to take a 3-1 advantage.
In the ensuing frame and two down, Noah Detiller plated
Narvin Booker Jr. with a base knock. Detiller scored on the next play as Ingersoll laced a double to right field to tie the game at 3.

Nuno Parache, the Red & Gray took the lead in the fifth as
Aaron Biediger brought
Karson Irvin home on a single to center field. After Lamar retired the Colonels in order in the seventh, the Cardinals tied the game with one run on three hits off relief pitcher
Joseph Bordelon.
Despite allowing the game tying run, Bordelon had a strong outing as he fanned six batters in his three full frames of work. After the Colonels were unable to score in the 10th, the Cardinals loaded the bases on three walks before winning the game with a walk off single.
The Colonels tallied eight hits with Jans and Ingersoll leading the way with two apiece. On the mound, Parache struck out four, allowed eight hits, and three runs in six innings of work.

Game two of the series will be on Saturday, April 12 at 5 p.m., followed by the finale on Sunday, April 13 at 1 p.m.
