THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University men's tennis team ended its regular season with a 7-0 loss to UIW and a 6-1 setback to Lamar.
The Colonels (11-10, 0-5 SLC) will return to action next week in the Southland Conference Tournament, starting Thursday at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.
Nicholls had a tough going at UIW, being swept in doubles before falling in all six singles matches in straight sets. But the Colonels bounced back on Monday at Lamar despite a 6-1 setback.
After dropping the doubles point at LU, the Colonels fell behind 3-0 after losses at No. 6 and 2.
Kotaro Matsumura was outlasted in a tiebreaker in the opening set at No. 2 before falling 6-3. The clinching point for Lamar came at No. 5 when Guy Dagan went deep into a tiebreaker for an 11-9 win in the first set against
Michael Wood, then taking a 6-4 victory in set two.
The three remaining matches all lasted three sets.
Marcell Marki fell in his opener before reeling off a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4.
Maxwell Lindstedt traded victories at No. 1 in his loss while
Colin Tavares won his first but dropped the next two.
