BATON ROUGE, La. – After sending a handful of competitors to the Texas Relays, the Nicholls State University men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Baton Rouge to compete in the Pelican Relays hosted by Southern University at A.W. Mumford Stadium on April 4-5.
The loaded field will include Alcorn State, Centenary, Dillard, Grambling, Hinds CC, Louisiana, Loyola-New Orleans, North American, Northwestern State, Southeastern, St. Thomas, and Xavier-Louisiana.
The Colonels had four event wins on the track and multiple top 10 finishes across the two-day event.
Maria Nikolaou won the women's 800-meter race with a time of 2:20.34,
Issy Rivault won the women's 3K with a time of 10:36.68, while
Lucas Futey won the men's 3K after clocking a time of 9:07.33. The Colonels also took first in the Women's 4x400m relay as Nikolau teamed up with
Isabelle Seijhouwer,
Anne De Jong,
Layla Ingalls to clock a time of 4:07.61.
Along with the four victories, the Red & Gray tallied 16 top 10 finishes. On the track, Nisaiah Bennett placed 10th in the men's 200m with a personal best time of 21.44.
Goran Duijsters finished ninth in the men's 800m race after clocking a time of 1:59.29. Seijhouwer placed second in the women's 1500 with a time of 5:02.58.
Brady Sins (9:10.72),
William Nizzo (9:19.34) and
Ty Fraizer (9:34.14), placed second, fourth, and sixth in the men's 3K while
Elaina Hansen (11:01.07),
Payton Theriot (11:19.01),
Avery Guidry (11:55.93), and
Lotte Aerts (12:00.00) placed second, fourth, sixth, and seventh, respectively.
The Colonels also had a strong showing in the field as
Gracie Baker launched the javelin 36.03m to place fourth in the women's javelin competition.
Gavin Windham placed ninth in the men's javelin with a 50.28m toss.
Sydney Brown soared a season best 11.44 meters to place fourth in the women's triple jump while
Andrei Fuentes leaped 6.37m to place 10th in the men's long jump.
