Lafayette, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team was beaten by the University of Louisiana 6-2 at Russo Park on Wednesday night.
After falling behind 1-0 after two innings, Nicholls (15-26, 8-16 SLC) tied the game with as
Logan Mock plated A.J. Cappell with a two out base hit to left field.
Following a third scoreless frame from starting pitcher
Dalton Hill, the Colonels took the lead in the fifth. With two down, designated hitter
Jaden Collura laced a textbook stand up double that allowed
Karson Irvin to capitalize on his free pass by scoring from first.
However, UL matched the Colonels' run in the home half of the fifth by taking advantage of an error. In the ensuing inning, the Ragin' Cajuns scored three as Jose Torres hit a base clearing double to the outfield. UL scored their sixth run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
Along with the three scorless frames, Hill allowed three hits and two runs in 4.1 frames of work. Relief pitcher Koen van' T Klooster allowed two hits and three runs in 1.2 innings, while
Luke McGibboney allowed two hits and one run in two full stanzas.
