Colonels Battle Jackson State to a Draw

THIBODAUX, La. - In a physical match that featured a combined 33 fouls and seven yellow cards, the Nicholls State University women's soccer team battled Jackson State to a 0-0 draw Friday night at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.

Goalkeeper Aislinn Wright secured her first clean sheet for Nicholls (2-4-1), notching five saves in the full 90 minutes. Her counterpart, Taylor Osborn, had three saves for Jackson State.

Both teams fired off six shots each in the opening half. Jackson State put the pressure on early with three in the opening 10 minutes before the Colonels found their offense. In the second half, JSU held an 8-2 advantage in shots which included five on target. However, Wright kept the Tigers off the scoreboard for her first shutout.

Kate Guillory, Paityn Bruce and Alyssa Wheeler each attempted two shots. Both of Wheeler's were on goal while Bruce had one as well. Kyla Gomez led Jackson State with a game-high three.

The draw was the first in the all-time series since 2007. The Colonels had won five of the last eight meetings including a 1-0 victory last season.
