THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University volleyball team defeated Grambling (3-0) and Southern (3-1) on day three of the 2025 SLC-SWAC challenge to improve to 9-1 on the season.
GAME ONE: Nicholls 3, Grambling 0 | 25-19, 25-21, 25-17
Nicholls' offense picked up where it left off in day two of the tournament as the unit hit .280 for the match. The attack started strong tallying 15 kills while hitting .323 from the floor in the opening frame. The Colonels also focused on strong defense as the squad forced Grambling to hit .121 from the floor.
The Red & Gray offense was paced by setter
Isabella Padilla who dished 34 assists.
Tamara Chavez registered 16 kills and 10 digs to claim her sixth game with at least 10 kills and third double-double of the season.
Maelie Chupin tallied 11 kills while hitting .526 from the floor.
Alyssa Williams and
Ana Clara Valentim do Vale chipped in by adding six kills apiece.
Defensively, the Colonels totaled 48 digs and 12 blocks.
Harper Holden recorded three solo blocks and one block assist while Valentim do Vale had three assisted blocks and one solo stuff. Chavez added two assisted blocks while Williams and Padilla had one a piece.
Karina Smith anchored the defense with 12 digs while
Ava-Claire Calais,
Olivia Besson and Padilla had six digs apiece.
GAME TWO: Nicholls 3, Southern 0 | 25-20, 25-16, 25-21
In the final game of the action pack weekend, Nicholls dominated the first two sets as they hit .355 in the opening frame and .500 in the second. However, the story of game would be the resilience the Colonels showed in the final stanza. After falling behind 15-9, the Colonels would score 16 of the next 22 points in the match to complete the seventh sweep of the season.
The dominant Red & Gray offense was ran by Padilla who dished 36 assists. Chavez led the way with 21 kills, three service aces, and two blocks. While Chupin added 10 kills.
The Colonels tallied 41 digs with Smith leading the way with 12 followed by Besson (11), Calais (8), and Padilla (6).
