Colonels Clipped by Cowgirls, 2-1

THIBODAUX, La  -- After securing the first Southland Conference victory since 2018, the Nicholls State University women's soccer team fell 2-1 to McNeese at Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.
 
Both teams created chances early on however the stout defense and goalkeeping kept the game scoreless for most of the contest as all three goals scored happened within the final 30 minutes of play.
 
McNeese broke the scoreless tie on a long-range free kick by Rhiannon Maynes-Tourond scored her fourth goal of the season (66:13). Nicholls (4-6-1, 1-2 SLC) responded with its own score on a set piece as Mylea Riggle's corner found Cameron Bonadona who headed the ball into the back of the net to tie the game with less than 10 minutes to play. The game deciding goal was scored when Vitoria Mitre found Alexi Pitt who scored to put the Cowgirls up 2-1
 
The match was physical throughout as the units combined for 17 fouls. Both teams took double figure shots with Nicholls taking 10 compared the McNeese's 13. For the Colonels, Kaylie Harris took three while Lillie Mazur, Kate Guillory, Angelina Rispone, Karis Phillippe, Sydney Becker, and Riggle took one apiece. Goalkeeper Aislinn Wright tallied five saves.
