THIBODAUX, La. – After back-to-back home wins, the Nicholls State University women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to Prairie View A&M University at Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Nicholls offense got out to a strong start as capitalized on a corner kick where forward
Angelina Rispone's shot attempt deflected off the Panthers' goalkeeper Nenah Jackson and found
Kate Guillory. Guillory was in the right place at the right time to score on the rebound to put the Red & Gray up 1-0 nearly 20 minutes into the first half.
The Colonels held their lead for roughly 30 minutes before Niasia Goodwin broke free to tie the game (50:42). 11 minutes later, Ashanti Hall scored to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead.
The contest was a physical defensive battle that saw both teams create scoring opportunities throughout. The Colonels took 15 shots with eight on target as
Avery Mondoux took five.
Mylea Riggle,
Alyssa Wheeler,
Paityn Bruce, and Guillory took two shots apiece while
Kaylin Wheeler and Rispone each took one.
On the other side the Panthers totaled 11 shots with four on target as the Colonels' goalkeeper
Aislinn Wright finished with two saves. Jackson had seven saves for PVAMU. The teams combined for 17 fouls with the Colonels committing 10. The Panthers' Chloe Wiggins was given a yellow card (32:04).
