THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University men's and women's tennis teams began the season on Wednesday at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.and both came away with wins over Coastal Alabama Community College as the men claimed a 6-1 victory while the women posted a 7-0 shutout.
The men got underway 90 minutes later than the original start time due to wet conditions on the court. But it didn't stop the Colonels from sweeping doubles play as

Mitchell Spence (6-3), and
Charlie DuBos /
Marcell Marki (7-6 (5)) picked up victories.
In singles action, Nicholls secured five of the six singles courts, including two in straight sets. Spence won at No. 5, 6-1, 6-4, while
Arthur Oliani took his match at No. 3, 6-3, 6-1.
Spagnuolo, Marki, and DuBos all won their matches in three sets.
For the women's match, the Colonels had little trouble in doubles as they swept the three courts.

Jada Iverson surrendered only one game at No. 3 and

Noemie Piquet won their match at No. 2, 6-2.
In singles play, Nicholls won all six matches in straight sets and blanked Coastal in two different sets. Villegas won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, Inna took her match 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 and Piquet came out on top at No. 3, 6-3, 6-1.
For the rest of the lineup, Bordiginon won 6-0, 6-1, Losada secured a 6-0, 6-3 triumph and Iverson took the No. 6 court, 6-1, 6-1.
