THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University softball team will make its longest trip of the season as the Colonels head to San Antonio for a three-game series against UIW.

Friday's doubleheader (March 13) is scheduled for 3 p.m. with Saturday's finale set for 1 p.m.

Nicholls (12-11, 2-1 SLC) opened up league play with a series win over SFA before dropping a midweek contest to No. 20 LSU. Molly Yoo was dominant in the two victories over the Lumberjacks, going 2-0 with 13 strikeouts in two complete games. At the plate, Madison Moak and Erin Krause both hit .500 in the series while Moak drove in seven runs.

For the season, Claire Sisco continues to head the offense with a league-leading .407 batting average to go along with 21 runs scored and 18 stolen bases. Laylin Sturm is a perfect 15-for-15 in stolen bases and as a team, the Colonels rank fifth in the NCAA with 63.

UIW (18-8, 3-0 SLC) is one of three teams in the Southland that picked up a sweep in the opening weekend. The Cardinals plated at least nine runs in each victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and took two of the games via run-rule. 

The Cardinals feature one of the top hitters in the Southland, Victoria Altamirano. The senior is tied with Sisco for the league's best average at .407 and leads the SLC with nine home runs and 33 RBIs. 

In last year's series in Thibodaux, Nicholls took the opener, 1-0, in nine innings thanks to an RBI double by Carmella Muccilli and a complete game by Yoo. But UIW rallied back to win the series with wins in Games 2 and 3.
