Nicholls Softball Travels to Lamar for SLC Series

THIBODAUX, La. - Following a sweep of McNeese, the Nicholls State University softball team will head to Beaumont, Texas for a three-game series against Lamar University, starting with a Friday (March 27) doubleheader at 2:00 PM.

Saturday's single-game finale is scheduled for 12:00 PM. Game 1 and 3 will stream on ESPN+.

Nicholls (19-13, 7-2 SLC) remained in second place in the Southland after taking all three matchups with McNeese last weekend. Lamar (18-15, 5-4 SLC) was swept by McNeese to start league play and lost the first game against SFA but have since won seven straight, coming off a sweep at East Texas A&M.

In nine league games, the Colonels are batting .303 and are led by Reagan Heflin and Erin Krause who are batting .385 with 10 hits each. Both have four extra-base hits including one home run apiece. Heflin had a big series last weekend as she matched her career high of four RBIs in the finale to secure the sweep.

Molly Yoo has been the go-to pitcher, logging 33.2 innings in conference and has a 5-1 record with a 2.50 ERA and 26 strikeouts. She notched two wins against McNeese, highlighted by a complete game in the opening 5-3 victory. Sierra Ouellette posts the top ERA for the Colonels at 0.58 in 12.0 innings.

Lamar is also batting close to .300 at .296 but has three batters hitting .400 or better. Reigning SLC Hitter of the Week Cala Wilson is at exactly .400 and is tied with Isabella Flores with a team-high 11 RBIs. The duo has also combined for four home runs.

Kaylee Cuevas heads the pitching staff in SLC action with a 3.34 ERA, going 1-1 with a save in 14.2 innings.

Nicholls and Lamar played four times a year ago with the Colonels sweeping the Cardinals on Senior Day Weekend. LU took the nonconference matchup in the second weekend of the season, 12-1, in five innings before Nicholls closed out March with 5-1, 10-4 and 11-3 (5 inn.) victories.
