THIBODAUX, La. - For the second time in the last three conference matches, the Nicholls State University women's tennis team secured the doubles point but came up short in singles action, falling 5-2 to McNeese on Saturday afternoon at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.
With the loss, Nicholls slipped to 3-9 overall and 0-5 in the Southland. McNeese won its 10th consecutive match, improving to 15-1 and 5-0.
The Cowgirls dominated Court 3 in doubles with a 6-0 win, but the Colonels rallied late on the top two lines to take a 1-0 lead.
Paulina Villegas and
Aada Inna tied it up with a 6-4 win at No. 1 before
Noemie Piquet and
Blanca Losada clawed back for a 7-5 victory at No. 3.
However, in singles McNeese won the first six courts in straight sets to remain unbeaten in league play. Inna wrapped up the match with a 6-1, 6-7 (5), 10-7 victory at No. 2 for the Colonels' lone singles point.
