THIBODAUX, La. - Coming off a series victory in its conference opener, the Nicholls State University softball team will look to knock off nationally-ranked LSU as the No. 17 Tigers come to town for a 6 p.m. contest on Tuesday night at Swanner Field at Geo Surfaces Park.
Nicholls (12-10) and LSU (17-7) already squared off once this season in the LSU Invitational on Feb. 27 with the Tigers claiming a 3-1 victory.
Claire Sisco had the lone hit and RBI in the loss while the Colonel pitching staff of
Averi Paden,
Sierra Ouellette and
Molly Yoo combined to surrender just five hits.
Sisco continues to be one of the top hitters in the NCAA as she posts a .421 batting average and has a team-high 20 runs scored.
Erin Krause holds the team lead in batting at .422 and with 17 RBIs.
Madison Moak had a big week where she drove in seven runs and is now tied with
Reagan Heflin for second on the team with 16 RBIs.
Yoo also had a notable week for the Red and Gray, going 2-0 with a 1.17 ERA and 16 strikeouts in her three appearances. Against LSU in the earlier matchup, she tossed 2.0 shutout innings with two hits allowed.Â
LSU looks to get back on track after being swept over the weekend against No. 1 Tennessee. The Tigers were red hot with 10 straight wins, including the victory over the Colonels, but could not avoid the sweep on the road.Â
LSU has dominated the all-time series with a 41-1 record and has won the last 37 meetings. The Colonels last hosted LSU in 2024 where they suffered a 10-2 loss.Â
