Senior Day Highlights Series against East Texas A&M, Thursday Doubleheader Moved to 9 AM

THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University softball team will host East Texas A&M for a three-game series at Swanner Field at Geo Surfaces Park, starting with a Thursday doubleheader on April 2.

The Thursday doubleheader has been pushed up to a 9:00 a.m. start due to forecasted weather. The series-opening doubleheader was originally slated to start at 4:00 p.m.

Friday's Senior Day finale is still scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Following the game, the Colonels will honor their 12-member Senior Class -- Reagan Heflin, Erin Krause, Kayleigh Lugowski, Madison Moak, Carmella Muccilli, Sierra Ouellette, Averi Paden, Lilianna Robledo, Claire Sisco, Brynne Songy, Sydni Stevens, and Molly Yoo

Nicholls (19-16, 7-5 SLC) is coming off a roller coaster ending of March, winning four straight games which included a sweep of McNeese, then losing four straight after last weekend's sweep at Lamar. With the three losses in Beaumont, the Colonels are in a four-way tie for third in the Southland standings, trailing Lamar by one game for second place.

Although the Colonels posted a sub-.200 batting average in the series at LU, Heflin had a pair of two-hit games to lead the offense. The senior right fielder has been swinging a hot bat in league play, batting a team-high .389 with two doubles, a triple, and a home run.

In the circle, Ouellette is coming off a team-high 9.0 innings in the series at Lamar and has a team-best 2.00 ERA in conference games. She is also limiting the opposition to a .241 batting average in 21.0 innings in six appearances in SLC play.

East Texas A&M (6-31, 1-11 SLC) also brings a losing streak into the series after dropping its last seven. The Lions secured their lone league win in the finale against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi before going on to get swept by Lamar and Northwestern State.

The Lions feature one of the top sluggers in the league as Tatum Wright has the second most home runs with 10 while sporting a .354 average. Despite falling in all three matchups last season, Wright hit one of East Texas A&M's four home runs in the series.

Nicholls is 8-1 all-time against the Lions, losing the first ever meeting in extra innings in 2023 before reeling off eight straight wins.
