THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University softball team will begin its final two weeks of the regular season with a midweek series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, starting Tuesday, April 14 with a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader at Swanner Field at Geo Surfaces Park.
The finale is scheduled for Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. and will serve as Future Colonels/Red Out game. All kids are encouraged to come to the game and can run the bases afterwards. All fans in attendance are asked to wear red.
With nine games remaining, Nicholls (24-17, 12-6 SLC) finds itself in a tie for second place with UIW. This weekend's opponent, Southeastern, has a six-game lead for first with an 18-0 record while the six teams behind them in the standings have at least nine wins in conference and are within 3.0 games of each other.
The Colonels are coming off a road series win at HCU, taking Games 1 and 3 behind Southland Pitcher of the Week
Molly Yoo. The senior threw two complete games against the Huskies, highlighted by a shutout in the 3-0 opening victory. Yoo gave up a run in the finale before the Colonel offense found its stroke late with 12 runs in the last three innings.
Nicholls had a .343 batting average in the three games in Houston, paced by
Claire Sisco who totaled seven hits for a .583 average. She saved her best for last by going 4-for-4 and now ranks sixth in the Southland in batting at .383. Fellow senior
Reagan Heflin also had a big series with six hits and moved up to 12th in the league with 31 RBIs.
The Islanders (10-32, 4-14 SLC) head to town looking to improve their postseason odds as they are 1.0 game ahead of HCU for the final spot. The last win for AMCC was against the Huskies as they'll be aiming to snap a 10-game losing streak after sweeps against Southeastern, Lamar, and McNeese.
Nicholls has won the last seven against AMCC, including a sweep at home in 2024. The streak started with a 1-0 win in the 2023 Southland Tournament, fueled by Yoo with a shutout in her freshman campaign.
