HOUSTON, Texas - Coming off a sweep at home, the Nicholls State University softball team will look to carry that momentum to Houston as the Colonels take on HCU for a three-game series at Husky Field.
Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. while Saturday's finale will stream on ESPN+ with a 12:00 p.m. first pitch.
Nicholls (22-16, 10-5 SLC) took care of business in the series sweep of East Texas, batting .450 as a team while holding the Lions to a combined four hits.
Molly Yoo allowed three in her 9-1 victory before
Sierra Ouellette gave up an infield single in her 8-0 win. Then on Senior Day Friday,
Averi Paden held East Texas A&M without a hit for her first career no-hitter.
Not only did the Colonel offense hit at a high average, but they plated 25 runs with the help of 11 doubles and three home runs.
Gabby Higbee, who sat out Senior Day, posted a .714 batting average with three doubles, while
Madison Moak and
Kayleigh Lugowski also chipped in with three doubles each.Â
While Nicholls heads to Houston after an offensive explosion, HCU (5-30, 2-13 SLC) is looking to get its offense on track. The Huskies were shutout for the weekend at UIW and scored just two runs in their last home series against SFA.
Nicholls carries a five-game winning streak in the series against HCU which includes two postseason wins, but the Huskies took the last series in Husky Field in 2024.
On Deck
Nicholls will be at home for six games this coming week, hosting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (April 14-15) for a midweek series before taking on Southeastern over the weekend (April 17-18).
