THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's soccer team drew with Grambling 2-2 at Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.
After scoring four goals in its last contest, Nicholls kept the offensive momentum rolling as they generated a 2-0 lead heading into halftime. The Colonels broke a scoreless tie 40 minutes into the match as
Olyvia Pugh connected with
Jezlyn Nelson to put the Colonels up 1-0. Pugh doubled the Red & Gray lead with a right footed goal a few minutes later.
Nicholls' lead did not last. Grambling' Layla Jackson was set up by Olivia Kowall to cut the advantage in half in the 70th minute. The Tigers tied the contest about five minutes later as Jaleah Gonzalez scored on an assist by Kaylen Jankans (75:03).
The final 15 minutes were competitive as both teams took shots and earned multiple corner kicks. However, neither team could score to down the stretch, so the Colonels registered their second draw of the season.
The Colonels created many chances throughout the contest as they finished with 11 shots including eight on target while Grambling took 14 total shots. Goalkeeper
Aislinn Wright played stout as she finished with three saves.
