MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team was beaten Alabama State (1-3) on the final day of the ISTAP Collegiate Cup Tournament inside the Joe L. Reed Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Saturday afternoon.
Nicholls offense started slowly as they had 10 kills and eight errors in the opening set that Alabama State was able to win 25-21. The Colonels' offense responded in the second stanza as they had 14 kills enroute to a 25-12 victory. The Hornets won the third and fourth set with the same score, 25-19 as the Colonels had hitting percentages of 0.156 and 0.105.
Mckenzie Mitchell led the offense with 12 kills while adding 10 digs to record her third double-double of the season.
Madison Smith added 10 kills while
Harper Holden had eight. Senior setter
Isabella Padilla dished a season-high 40 assists.

Natalia Navarro led the defense with 16 digs while
Lizzie Kraft added nine. Smith and Padilla combined for 15 digs. Middle blocker
Maya Schirmer had three blocks while Smith and Holden had one apiece.

Nicholls (6-4) will host Grambling inside Stopher Gymnasium on Wednesday, Sept. 16. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
