HOUSTON, Texas – Freshman midfielder
Gentry Watrous scored her first career goal in the Nicholls State University women's soccer team's draw with Houston Christian on Sorrels Field on Thursday night.
After Nicholls fell behind 1-0 in the 68th minute,
Alyssa Wheeler notched her fourth assist of the season as she set up Watrous for the equalizing goal with five minutes to go.
Both goalkeepers faced plenty of action as neither offense was timid. The Colonels took 18 shots while the Huskies had 17. Nicholls goalkeeper
Aislinn Wright tallied seven saves while HCU's Emmy McKeon had two.
Olyvia Pugh led the Red & Gray with six shot attempts while
Jezlyn Nelson added four. Eight different Colonels took at least one shot.
Cameron Bonadona, Angelia Rispone,
Reagan Goodwyn,
Kaylie Harris,
Bryton Brown,
Mylea Riggle, and Wheeler took one shot apiece.
For the Huskies, Ella Remy connected with Isabella Dillow who scored their goal on one of her three shot attempts. HCU's attack was led by Jasmine Diaz who took six shots, followed by Paisely Barela (4), and Isabella Alamo (2).
This is the second consecutive 1-1 draw between Nicholls and HCU. The two ties come after the Colonels dropped 13 straight in the series.
