Colonels Suffer Road Loss to Tigers

GRAMBLING, La. – The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss to Grambling inside the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center on Wednesday night.
 
Nicholls' (2-2) offense struggled throughout the contest as they posted a hitting percentage of .131 while committing 32 attacking errors and nine service errors. On the flip side, Grambling (2-2) started the match slow by recording a negative hitting percentage in the first set (-.192) which allowed the Colonels to take the first set 25-14.
 
The Colonels hit negative in the second set as they committed 10 errors while the Tigers had eight kills and eight errors en route to a 25-23 set victory. Both teams' offense was more efficient in the third set as the Colonels hit .278 with a match high 17 kills, however Grambling took the set 25-22 behind a .333 hitting percentage.
 
In the final set, Nicholls had more kills (15) than Grambling, but the Tigers had 13 kills and one error to register a .444 hitting percentage to win the frame 25-19.
 
Overall, the Red & Gray had 64 kills as Kera Arrington led the unit with 16. Mckenzie Mitchell added 11 while Maya Schirmer had nine. The attack was passed by current SLC setter of the Week Isabella Padilla who dished 37 assists. Mitchell led the team with three service aces while Lizzie Kraft and Jenna Cicherski had two apiece.
 
The Colonel defense was anchored by libero Natalia Navarro who had a game high 15 digs. Mitchell had 10 digs to record her second consecutive double-double. At the net Arrington and Schirmer had two blocks apiece.
