LORMAN, Miss. – After losing the opening set of the match, the Nicholls State University volleyball team responded by winning three consecutive frames to defeat Alcorn for the second time this season.
Nicholls (3-2) dropped the opening set 25-21 after hitting a match low .212 percent from the floor. The Colonels dominated the second and third set as they won them 25-9 and 25-12, respectively. Nicholls closed the match by winning the frame 25-20.
The Colonels' offense hit a season best .346 percent from the floor as they recorded double figure kills in all four sets. After recording seven errors in the opening stanza the Red & Gray settled in and recorded nine errors across the final three stanzas. Nicholls responded by hitting .458 % in the second set and a season high .545 % in the third. The squad hit .240% in the final set.
The Red & Gray offense was paced effortlessly by senior setter
Isabella Padilla who dished 31 assists.
Kera Arrington and
Mckenzie Mitchell led the attack with 12 and 11 kills while Padilla added nine herself. Zaharhrah Edwards-Wyllie,
Maya Schirmer and
Harper Holden combined for 18 kills. Nicholls had nine service aces as
Natalia Navarro, Mitchell, and Holden had two apiece.
The Colonel defense was anchored by Navarro who had 11 digs, followed by Padilla (7), and
Lizzie Kraft (6). At the net, Schirmer had five solo blocks while Holden and Padilla added three and two, respectively.

Nicholls will stay on the road to take on Mississippi Valley State and SUNO in a tournament hosted by MVSU in Itta Bena, Miss.
