THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team was beaten 4-1 by Texas A&M – Corpus Christi inside Stopher Gym on Wednesday afternoon.
After Nicholls (7-7, 0-1 SLC) dropped the first set 25-19, the Colonels responded by recording a match high .441 hitting percentage with 16 kills en route to a 25-13 set victory to tie the match. The Red & Gray momentum did not last as the Islanders took the third and fourth sets, 25-20 and 25-17, respectively.
Nicholls offense hit .189 for the match as setters
Jenna Cicherski and
Isabella Padilla paced the attack with 19 and 16 assists.
Madison Smith was the leading scorer as she posted 18 kills and two service aces.
Harper Holden and
Amelie Shalfoon had seven kills apiece while
Zahahrah Edwards-Wyllie added six.
Libero
Natalia Navarro anchored the Colonel defense as she finished with 22 out of the 42 digs recorded by the Red & Gray. Holden held down the unit at the net as she led the way with four blocks while Smith and Shalfoon had two apiece.
For the Islanders, Kenna Buchanan led the way with 15 kills while Tatum Mason had nine. Erin Herrmann and Hadley Burger had seven kills apiece. Setter Virginia Van Der Werff paced the balanced attack with 42 assists. The A&M-Corpus Christi defense was led by Buchanan who had 13 digs while libero Brooklyn Jaeger and Madison Morrow had 12 and 11 digs, respectively.
