EDINBURG, Texas – The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team was beaten by UTRGV (3-0) inside the UTRGV Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.
Nicholls started the match with their highest kill total (12) and hitting percentage (.121) of the contest as they lost the first set, 25-21. The Colonels offense struggled in the second stanza as they lost the frame 25-20. The Red & Gray fought until the end as they scored eight of the last 11 points of the match as they lost the final frame 25-22.
Nicholls offense had a balanced attack as
Madison Smith led the way with seven kills followed by
Kera Arrington (6).
Zahahrah Edwards-Wyllie and
Maya Schirmer had five apiece.
Jenna Cicherski and
Lizzie Kraft had two service aces apiece.
Isabella Padilla and Cicherski paced the offense with 12 and nine assists, respectively.
Defensively, libero
Natalia Navarro had 13 digs to lead the unit while Smith and Padilla had seven apiece and Cicherski and Kraft combined for 12.
Amelie Shalfoon, Edwards-Wyllie and Schirmer had the four blocks for the Colonels.
UTRGV's offense was paced by setter Lana Rnjak who had 27 assists. She connected with Ema Petkovic and Martina Franco the most as they recorded 13 and nine kills apiece.

Nicholls (7-8, 0-2 SLC) will return to action at home next week against Lamar on Oct. 1 and 3.
