BEAUMONT, Texas – Nicholls State University midfielders
Kate Guillory and
Alyssa Wheeler scored goals in the Colonels' 2-2 draw against Lamar in Beaumont, Texas on Sunday afternoon.
Nicholls took a 1-0 lead early as Guillory leaped over a crowd and headed the ball into the back of the net to score her second goal in as many games and her third goal of the season. The go-ahead goal was set up by a free kick by
Alyssa Wheeler who connected with Guillory for her fifth assist of the season.
Both teams had strong first halves as Lamar took nine shots and generated four corners. However, Nicholls took advantage of three fouls and took six shots before the intermission.
After the break, the Colonels kept their momentum rolling as Wheeler scored her sixth goal of the year on a free kick outside the box two minutes into the second half. The Red & Gray held the 2-0 advantage until Lamar's Sofia Wilby and Kamryn Harvey scored two goals in the 65th minute.
The contest was physical as the teams combined to commit 16 fouls with
Olivia Holmes registering the only yellow card of the contest. The Colonels finished the match with 11 shots while the Cardinals took 17. Colonel goalkeeper
Aislinn Wright recorded three saves.
