Colonels to Face Alabama State for Home Opener

THIBODAUX  - After splitting a pair of road games to open the season, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team will make its 2011-12 Stopher Gym debut on Monday, Nov. 21, when the Colonels host Alabama State at 2 p.m.

Nicholls (1-1) is coming off a big victory over in-state rival Louisiana-Lafayette, where the Colonels downed the Ragin' Cajuns, 72-64. KK Babin and LiAnn McCarthy teamed up for 32 points and combined for five of the Colonels'eight 3-pointers, while senior Sumar Leslie put together another all-around showing with 12 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. 

After two games, Leslie leads the team in scoring (12.0), followed closely behind by McCarthy (11.5), Babin (10.5) and Alisha Allen (10.0).

Alabama State (0-2) will be looking for its first win of the early season after falling against Georgia Tech and Samford. The Lady Hornets are led by Danielle Gazaway with 14 points per game and Kierra Page at 11.0. In ASU's home opener versus Samford, Page scored 15 points and hit three from long range.

ASU leads the all-time series 1-0. The Lady Hornets defeated the Colonels in the 1988-89 season by the score of 81-52.
