Alisha Allen scored a season-high 23 points on Sunday against Oregon
Final Stats EUGENE, Ore. – Despite season-high scoring efforts from
Alisha Allen and
KK Babin, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team dropped its final game in the Global Sports Cage Classic on Sunday, falling to host Oregon, 95-76, at Matthew Night Arena.
The Colonels finish the three-game trip with a 1-2 record and are 2-4 overall. With the win, Oregon sweeps the classic and stays undefeated with a 6-0 record.
Allen paced the Colonels with a team-high 23 points, hitting 8-of-17 from the field and 2-of-4 from behind the arc. Babin was next with 21 points, including 19 in the first half. Rounding out the scoring leaders for Nicholls was
Sumar Leslie with 14 and
Jenny Nash with 11.
Nicholls shot a blistering 10-of-17 (58.8 percent) from long range in the first half as they scored 47 points. However, Oregon, who never trailed in the game, used a 31-14 rebounding advantage which led to 23 second chance points to head into the intermission up 58-47.
Babin led Nicholls in the opening period, hitting five 3-pointers including one right before the buzzer. After falling behind by double-digits early, the Colonels were able to battle back to a three-point deficit with four minutes until the break. Oregon continued to pour it on though, building the lead back to 14 before Babin's 3-pointer to end the half.
The Ducks held a double-digit advantage the entire second-half, and led by as much as 21 points. Allen netted 13 points for the Colonels after the break, finishing with a team-high 23.
Both squads shot 42 percent from the field, while Nicholls had a slight advantage from behind the arc at 41 percent. Oregon finished with a 50-38 rebounding edge, with the difference coming on the offensive glass as the Ducks had 22 versus only 10 from Nicholls.
Jenny Nash led the Colonel on the boards, finishing one shy of completing her first career double-double. Leslie added seven boards and had a game-high seven assists.
Oregon's Amanda Johnson led all scorers with 27 points.
Nicholls will return to action on Dec. 3 when they take on in-state rival ULM. Tipoff in Monroe is scheduled for 2 p.m.
