Colonels Back in Louisiana to Face ULM

THIBODAUX  – After spending the Thanksgiving break in Oregon for three games, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team will hit the road once again on Saturday to take on Louisiana-Monroe at Fant-Ewing Coliseum. Tipoff for the contest is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Nicholls improved its record to 2-4 on the year following a win against Weber State in the Global Sports Cage Classic. ULM will be looking for its first victory of the 2011-12 season after falling to McNeese State, 68-60, on Wednesday night.

In last season's matchup, the Colonels rallied to knockoff the Warhawks at the buzzer, scoring the game's final seven points. Alisha Allen's field goal with two seconds remaining propelled Nicholls to a 53-52 victory, breaking the Colonels' eight-game losing streak against ULM.

Allen led the Colonels in their last outing against Oregon, scoring a season-high 23 points. The junior from Garland, Texas is one of three Colonels averaging at least 12 points per game this season, joined by Sumar Leslie (13.7) and KK Babin (12.7). Leslie also leads the team in rebounding (6.8) and currently ranks 28th in the nation with 5.5 assists per game.

The Warhawks also feature one of the NCAA's assist leaders as Elizabeth Torres heads into the contest with a 6.6 average, ranking 12th in the country. ULM is led in scoring by Larrie Williams with 13.1 pointers per game, followed by Torres at 11.6.

Tipoff between the in-state rivals is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Links to live stats will be available at geauxcolonels.com.
