Nicholls will look to win its sixth straight contest on Wednesday night at UALR
THIBODAUX – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team will be looking to make history on Wednesday night as they put its five-game winning streak on the line against the University of Arkansas-Little Rock. Tipoff against the Trojans at the Jack Stephens Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Nicholls (7-5) secured its seventh victory of the season on Dec. 30, taking out SUNO, 72-52. In the game, the Colonels forced the Lady Knights into 20 turnovers and used a 16-point scoring effort from junior
Alisha Allen to capture its fifth consecutive victory, matching the longest winning streak in program history.
Heading into their final non-conference matchup, the Colonels post the Southland's third highest scoring average (68.2 ppg), while ranking fifth in scoring defense (65.1 ppg). Also as a team, Nicholls still holds the top spot in field goal (43.0), 3-point (37.4) and free throw (76.2) percentage.
The trio of senior
Sumar Leslie, sophomore
KK Babin and Allen continue to lead the Colonels as they are accounting for 65 percent of the scoring, led by Leslie's 15.6 points per game. Babin and Allen are ranked ninth in the league with 14.3 points per outing, and freshman
Jenny Nash, who scored 13 last game, is tallying 8.1 ppg.
UALR (5-9) is coming off a 53-51 victory over Denver to claim its second win in its last three contests. The Trojans are averaging 58.3 points per game, led by the tandem of Taylor Gault (15.4) and Marian Kursh (13.6).
The squads have one common opponent this season, North Texas, with the Colonels defeating the Mean Green in overtime, 67-64, while UALR fell to UNT 64-57.
For the series, the teams have met twice, both in the 1987-88 season with each team winning one game.
