Final Stats THIBODAUX  – Trailing by two points in the final seconds of the game, sophomore KK Babin stole the inbounds pass, found Jenny Nash open for a 3-pointer and the freshman banked home her only field goal of the night, giving the Nicholls State University women's basketball team a thrilling 64-63 victory against Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday night at Stopher Gym.

With the win, Nicholls improves to 13-10 on the season and 6-4 in conference play. The Colonels also matched their highest win total since the 1998-99 campaign and are one win from tying the program-record for victories in a single-season.

Stephen F. Austin falls to 15-7 and 5-4 in the Southland. The loss was only the fourth all-time against the Colonels in 42 matchups.

Senior Sumar Leslie led the Colonel scoring effort, netting 20 points and tacked on five steals to her league leading total. Babin finished with 18 points, fueled by a 4-of-6 night from behind the arc and junior Alisha Allen, who had a team-high eight rebounds, chipped in with 13 points.

In the first half, the defenses controlled the game as SFA headed into the break with a 33-26 lead. The Ladyjacks shot 38 percent and were led by Tammara Marion with 10 points. Marion led all scorers on the night with 22 points, with 18 coming from six 3-pointers.

Leslie and Babin teamed up with eight points each for the Colonels. Lesile had three steals in the period, with two leading to fastbreak layups for the Houma, La. native.

After the intermission, Marion drained a three-ball for SFA, giving the Ladyjacks its largest lead of the night, 37-28. Marion nailed another from downtown to make the count 43-36; however, Leslie hit two from long range to spark a 12-2 run as Nicholls captured its first lead of the second half.

In the final 10 minutes of the game, neither team gained more than a two-point advantage as the Colonels and Ladyjacks played to three ties and 10 lead changes.

With less than two minutes remaining, Babin gave Nicholls a 60-59 edge, but SFA answered with a bucket underneath by Annette Davis. On the Colonels next possession, Allen converted on a free throw to knot the game at 61, but the Ladyjacks pounded it inside again to Davis to go up two with 43 seconds left.

The SFA defense held Nicholls to an errant field goal attempt as the shot clock expired to gain possession with 10 seconds left. Following a timeout, Babin stole the inbounds pass by Brittney Matthew and quickly found Nash for the game-winner. Marion was able to get off an off-balance shot at the top of the key as time expired, but came up empty as the Colonels escaped with a one-point victory.

Nicholls will head back to Texas for its next contest as the Colonels take on Lamar for the second time this season, with Nicholls claiming the first matchup in Thibodaux, 70-64. Tipoff at the Montagne Center is scheduled for 2 p.m.
