KK Babin was tabbed third-team as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association announced its annual awards for women's basketball on Saturday.
Both Leslie and Babin also received honors from the Southland Conference earlier this year as they were named second-team, becoming the first Colonel duo to make All-SLC in the same season.
Leslie was voted first-team after leading the Colonels in scoring at 15.6 points per game, which was the fourth highest average in the Pelican State. In nine contests versus schools from Louisiana, Leslie, a native of Houma, averaged 16.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists.
On the year, she was held to single digits in scoring in only three of 31 games played and scored 20-plus points in eight games. Against Southeastern Louisiana, Leslie led the Colonels to a victory with a career-high 34 points. In conference, she finished the year ranked in the top 10 in the Southland in five different categories; seventh in scoring, 10th in field goal percentage (44.9), third in assists (4.5), second in free throw percentage (85.3) and first in steals (2.6).
After being named LSWA Freshman of the Year, Babin followed up with a stellar sophomore campaign en route to being named third-team. The Gonzales native wrapped up the year with a 12.8 scoring average, 4.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists.
A 3-point specialist, Babin set the Nicholls single-season record with 81 made 3-pointers while shooting at a .352 clip, ranking fifth in the Southland. On the year, she ranked 25th in the NCAA with 2.6 3-pointers made per game. Out of 31 games, Babin came up empty from downtown only twice and drained a career-high six against Belhaven.
For the other awards, LSU swept the two top honors as LaSondra Barrett was named player of the year and Nikki Caldwell took coach of the year. Nicholls head coach
DoBee Plaisance received two votes after leading the Colonels to a program-best 15 victories, including their first ever postseason win.
Louisiana Tech's Whitney Frazier was named freshman of the year, while LSU-Shreveport's Sharde Henry garnered newcomer of the year.
