THIBODAUX, La.  –
The Nicholls State University softball team will play four games in the Blues City Classic, hosted by Memphis in Southaven, Miss, starting on Saturday, Feb. 23.

Nicholls opens up the classic against Indiana State (1 p.m.) and Southeast Missouri State (6:30 p.m.) on Saturday, followed by Sunday matchups with Missouri-Kansas City (9 a.m.) and Belmont (11 a.m.). All four games can be listened to live on ThibodauxOnline.com.

The Colonels head into the weekend on a four-game losing skid after falling in their home opener against South Alabama, 7-1, Wednesday night. In the loss, Ashley Bertot had two of the Colonels' four hits, including a RBI single in the fourth.

Bertot, last season's Southland Conference batting champ, leads the Colonels with 11 hits and four multi-hit games. Bertot is also one of the three players with two stolen bases, joined by freshmen Danielle Phillips and Haley Parkerson.

The Colonel pitching staff will look to bounce back after the loss to South Alabama, which saw Nicholls give up a season-high 10 hits and seven runs. The trio of Ashton Bennett, Katie Moulder and Hannah Haydel still post a collective 1.37 ERA as only 13 of their 30 runs have been earned.  The defense has struggled a bit in the first 10 games, averaging two errors per contest.

Next weekend, Nicholls will head to Birmingham, Ala. to play five games in the Magic City Classic, hosted by Samford University.
