THIBODAUX, La. – After slugging it out with the Arkansas Razorbacks on the road in its season openers, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team will make their 2014-15 home debut Tuesday, Nov. 18 against Southern University New Orleans at 6 p.m. at Stopher Gym.
A live video stream of the game is available on Colonels All-Access via geauxcolonels.com, and KNSU 91.5 FM will provide a radio broadcast.
Nicholls, which led by one point at Arkansas at halftime, will be looking to improve its 4-2 record in home openers under head coach
DoBee Plaisance. The Colonels have won their last two home openers, including last season's 91-58 win over SUNO. In the win,
Emani White set her career-high in points with 33 as Nicholls cruised to a win.
In their opener at Arkansas on Friday, the Colonels (0-1) were led in scoring by senior
Jenny Nash who finished with 15 points with three 3-pointers.
Tia Charles had a strong debut for the Colonels as she also hit three 3-points and scored 11 points, and
Emani White reached double figures with 10 points.
Much like last season, the Colonels' Achilles heel in the loss to Arkansas was their rebounding. The Colonels held Arkansas to 23 percent shooting in the first half, but the Razorbacks finished the game with an extravagant rebounding advantage at 53-26.
SUNO heads to Thibodaux looking for its first win over the Colonels in the all-time series, which Nicholls leads 5-0. The Lady Knights are 2-1 on the year and are coming off an 87-52 throttling of Blue Mountain. They won their opener 104-54 against Selma before suffering a 95-74 loss to Loyola University New Orleans.
Brandy Broome leads the team with 23.5 points per game, followed by Victoria Davis at 19 ppg. Broome was the only Knight to reach double figures in the last meeting between Nicholls and SUNO, finishing with 20 points on 8-of-16 shooting.
Following the game, Nicholls will have an extended break, returning to the court on Nov. 29-30 in the Tennessee State Thanksgiving Classic in Nashville. The Colonels will play Youngstown State at 1 p.m. on Saturday before taking on Norfolk State at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
