THIBODAUX, La. – Nearly three weeks after the conclusion of the 2014 season, Nicholls State University senior libero
Kalynn Egea continues to garner recognition for her outstanding performance on the court and in the classroom, and was named to the Southland Conference Volleyball All-Academic First Team, as well as the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America Division I Volleyball Third Team the organizations announced Thursday.
A Peoria, Ariz. native, Egea was the catalyst for the Colonels' defense this season, leading the Southland Conference in both digs (607) and digs per set (5.84). She set the single-season record for digs per set at Nicholls and finished third in the nation in digs per set.
On Sept. 27 of this year Egea earned a career-high 32 digs against Northwestern State. She earned 7 service aces against Southeastern La. on Oct. 30, and 6 assists against Lamar on Oct. 4, both career-highs. Egea is also first all-time in school history for career digs per set. She was also named CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-District after finishing with a 4.0 GPA, and was recently accepted to Midwestern University for Optometry school.
