BATON ROUGE, La. – Nicholls State University seniors
Tobias Lofton and
Francisco Condado racked up another football weekly award Tuesday as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) named the duo offensive and special teams players of the week, respectively.
Both players earned the same award on Monday from the Southland Conference after outstanding game-changing performances in the Colonels' 27-24 victory over Southeastern Louisiana in the River Bell Classic.
Lofton rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown against the rival Lions, averaging 8.6 yards per carry. With Nicholls trailing 17-3 at the half, Lofton ignited the Colonels with a 62-yard touchdown run to start the third quarter. Nicholls went on to score touchdowns on their next two drives to take the lead for the first time. Lofton was nearly unstoppable in the second half, rushing for 134 yards on 10 carries.
Condado, a native of Whittier, Calif., came through in the clutch with his first career game-winning field goal as he booted a 40-yarder as time expired. Thursday night did not start out perfectly for Condado, who hit the upright on a 50-yard attempt in the first quarter, but the senior from Whittier, Calif. would not miss for the rest of the game. His 45-yard field goal in the second quarter was a season-long.
