LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Nicholls State University basketball team advanced to the winner's bracket of the Las Vegas Classic with an 84-81 victory over Hampton on Tuesday afternoon, and will meet Canisius College in the final on Wednesday.
 
The Colonels (4-7) and Golden Griffins (5-6) will face off at 4 p.m. central time in Orleans Arena.
 
Canisius is coming off of a miraculous triple-overtime victory against ULM. The Golden Griffins used a 14-1 run over the final minutes of regulation to force overtime, and ultimately defeated the Warhawks, 108-96.
 
Wednesday's matchup will be the first meeting between Nicholls and Canisius.
 
The Colonels will return home on Christmas Eve, before heading to Texas for a battle with Houston at 1 p.m. on Dec. 28. Nicholls will open Southland Conference play against Lamar on Jan. 2.
